How to Reach
By Air
The nearest airport to most Himachal destinations is Kullu-Bhuntar Airport (KUU) in Kullu district, approximately 50 km from Manali. Shimla Airport (SLV) is another option with limited connectivity. The closest major international airport is Chandigarh Airport (IXC), about 260 km from Shimla and 300 km from Manali, with regular flights from major Indian cities.
By Rail
The nearest broad-gauge railway station is Kalka (KLK), which is connected to Delhi and other major cities. From Kalka, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kalka-Shimla Toy Train offers a scenic 5-hour journey through 102 tunnels and over 800 bridges. For Manali, the nearest railway station is Joginder Nagar, but Chandigarh is the more practical railhead.
By Road
Himachal Pradesh has excellent road connectivity. Regular state-run and private buses operate from Delhi, Chandigarh, and other nearby cities. The driving distance from Delhi to Shimla is approximately 350 km (7-8 hours), and from Delhi to Manali is about 550 km (11-12 hours). The roads are well-maintained, though mountain driving requires caution, especially during monsoon season.
